Startup Profile: Meet.com

FTJ | March 20th by David Glass

Ian Jones, founder of Orlando-based startup Meet.com, discusses the launch of the mobile-social application that allows people to connect using geolocation technology on their smartphones.

Meet.com allows users to register using Facebook credentials or by creating a profile within the system. The application matches people using algorithms from social networking profiles. This includes, checkins, likes, and interest. Based on the user settings, the app will suggest matches with real-time location using GPS technology.

The company uses a freemium model. Users can connect with matches in their Facebook network free. Those who want to connect with matches outside their Facebook network will pay a recurring $4.99 monthly subscription fee billed by the itunes store.

Meet.com has just completed beta testing. The iPhone app will be available for download on the app store by end of March. Android, Blackberry and Facebook applications are due by end of 2012.
